It is always great to hear another’s slant on being a Red Hatter.  Such is the following that was written in a newsletter by a Red Hat Queen.

We think she may be a bit of an expert on the subject.  After all she is known as “The Empress of the West”.  Maybe we should all take a moment to reflect on what Red Hatting is supposed to be about.

Queen Bev’s (Strawberry Tarts of WA) ideas:

“Fun and friendship can be contagious and helps to overcome some of the hurdles of everyday activities. Members of Red Hat groups can have a high level of camaraderie, sympathy, empathy and love for those in their midst. Friendships are strengthening and healing when they come from loving and caring red-hatting friends towards one another….and it is essentially very good!    Collectively we are wonderful women having survived, or in the throes of surviving, many of life’s experiences who relate to other hatters who have walked the same walk. And we can empathise, and yes, frequently laugh over our shared experiences as we have gained valuable wisdom (often from the perfect science of ‘hindsight’), and have generally developed a more acute sense of prioritising.  We’re here for each other in all sorts of ways; whether it be as a shopping partner; for a chat over coffee; a listening ear; a shoulder to cry on – or the sharing of some funny or cheeky jokes and oh! …..so much more.  We truly appreciate that girlfriends are ‘chicken soup for the soul’.

We have done our life skills apprenticeship – completed the whole course, in fact – and graduated with honours!   We continue to love and nurture those who love and nurture us; we know our worth; stand up for our rights; and we take no nonsense from anyone.  It would be naïve, of course, to expect to ‘click’ with every single person.

We’ve also reached an age when we recognise that as hard as we try with some things or people – we don’t need to hit our heads on brick walls – we can simply say ‘no’; ‘enough’s enough’;  or walk away from anything or anyone unpleasant.  Life is just too short to ‘sweat the small stuff’.  With our high membership, from all walks of life and differing backgrounds, it’s only natural that we relate more to some than others.   That’s OK.  We just need to exercise tolerance, be the first to extend the hand of friendship and to apply the Golden Rule of treating everyone as we would have them treat us.   Works every time!”
